Work Experience

A1 class, where the students where analysing images, trying to gage and have their

own opinion on a piece of art work, training them in being critical and to understand

how other artists think and create artwork.

The teacher showed me the Module breakdown, and the work that is to be

produced at the end of each module.

A2

These are a more developed class as they are the year above.

A lot more experimental work occurring, using different medias, and

different techniques. The students are looking at a wide variety of work.

Todays lesson is on drawing techniques, concentration on making different

marks and different lines, tones and texture.

Drawing from life is very important especially for A1/A2 students, as they are

still developing their techniques and their skills, getting used to using different

media's and interpreting different artists.

A variety of different artists where discussed from, Jenny Saville, to Peter Doig, Anselm Keifer

plus many more.

I really enjoy working in a college, and discussing my practice with the students, and giving them advice

on their art work, and discussing artists they perhaps have not heard of before.

Fine-Art/Fashion

Recently I've been researching and doing a lot of reading in prep for my dissertation. Whilst i have been doing this i have come across and discovered some interesting things which have inspired me.
So many fashion designers think and are influenced my fine art, One of my favourite quotes is by Vivienne Westwood " Art is a mirror on life, and I have been influenced by it". This is very true we look to past Artists to learn how they saw the world and how it differs to our own. The best way for my to develop as a Fine Artist is to look at other artists work. Some how the past can never quite leave us, this can be related to Fashion as past trends are always come back in, for example vintage.
I find it so inspiring living in London. Theres no city quite like it, London has a great history and culture. I find London a very Independent city, its vibrant and upcoming.
I recently picked up a copy of Fashion magazine Harpers Bazar where i was delighted to see articles containing the likes of Jenny Saville and Lucian Freud too very great Artists. Jenny Saville is discussing Body Image and creativity...something i can very much so relate to.

New Drawings

These are some recent sketches that i have been working on. I find when im feeling confused and lost going back to drawing is the best things that i can do. I have been using harsher lines and darker shading, which illustrates how im feeling at this current time, my work often relfects my current state of mind. I am facinated by flowers, i find them so intiguing, theres something dangerous about them, they dont last forever, sometimes not even a week, yet there beauty lingers in my mind.

New /Ideas/Photographs

Elizabeth Blackadder
Orchid 1985
Etching

So....ive been taking pictures of flowers that i have seen around the areas i have been in-taking in my surroundings. I love all the beautiful colours that the summer flowers contain.
I recently went to an exhibition in Edinburgh- one of my favourite artists Elizabeth Blackadder. Alot of her work is about plants and flowers, and she draws/paints them as it is something like me she is interested, something she has passion for and that drives her creativity as an artist. I really enjoyed this exhibition as it displayed a variety of different work that she has done over time, and it was clear to see that her ideas and concepts as an artist had developed, however she doesnt make it too complicated- which i like. Her main influence is what is around her, she likes to paint flowers and plants from her back garden.

i though i would look at something which has always been an issue for me, the same for most woman i'de imagine- body image. i want to explore body image vs natural beauty.
As you can see im comparing myself to a model, something which i can't help myself from doing so. We live in a day and age where pressure to be thin and "beautiful" is a necessary, People are fickle and quick to judge. But does being thin make your feel more beautiful, happier, more content? comparing this idea, to the work i have been producing for the past 2 years on flowers. flowers to me are a signature of beauty and elegance. It is possible for human's to be this way naturally at all? With constant diets and eating disorders, the idea oh human and natural beauty has been lost, this is why i look to nature. .... to be continued.
